Summer show

We are holding our Summer show on Sunday 3rd September, and if it's anything like last years it promises to be a great event. Plotholders have a chance to get together and show off the fruit of their labours, there is a bit of serious judging and then the bar is open and a chance to have a bite to eat, a drink and a natter with fellow allotmenters.

This year we have decided not to run the largest pumpkin competition at this time to give growers the chance to keep their produce growing for Halloween. We always have a Pumpkin social around this time so this seemed like a better time to have this hotly contested competition.

There are loads of categories, and lots of tips on the entry form as to how the produce should be harvested and displayed so check these out before you harvest so as to make sure you don't get disqualified! Below is the accepted way to show sweetcorn for example!

It's all a bit of fun at the end of the day, some people have been on their plots a long time and have learnt many a lesson along the way, but equally categories have been won by complete novices in recent years, so why not give it a go! If nothing else you will see what you are up against for next year - this allotment business is a marathon, and not a sprint as they say.

The show will be held at the Sub Aqua club on Cottonmill Lane with entries required between 10.30am and 11.30am.

Prize giving is at 1pm after lunch (at 12pm) - do bring something homemade to add to the sharing table, no judging takes place on these items, but someone may want your recipe!
