We had another smashing Summer show on Sunday 3rd September. Despite some challenging weather and pest conditions this year, there were some fabulous entries and good to see some new faces entering (or just getting some inspiration for next year.)
Our chairman, Keith Reynolds took the overall prize (for the most winning entries) and not for the first time. He received his cup from last year's winners, who he had reluctantly handed over to a year ago... The children's categories were all won by 7 year old Martha Foxwell who was pleased as punch with her certificates and rosette one of which was for a plum decorated to look like Donald Trump no less! It would be great to get more kids involved with the show - and with our upcoming Pumpkin social which is a great competition for them.
Our show is just a bit of fun at the end of the day, but a great excuse to get together for a social event. Some plot holders put in a lot of time and effort and the overall cup IS hotly contested (whatever the contestants say...!) but individual prizes are very much up for the taking, and with so many categories, there is bound to be one for everyone.
I think one of our greatest successes of the year has been the donations to the Food bank. Big or small, wonky or straight, the food donated to the local Cottonmill branch of the food bank has been very gratefully received, and we should all give ourselves a pat on the back for growing enough to donate. Special thanks go to Michelle from the committee who set up the process and has championed it via Facebook since it started - well done Michelle.
